The Kid & The Boxer

Ian at Nationals 2008 I finally got a copy of this picture. This was taken at the National JROTC Drill Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida this past May.

See the Kid throw the rifle into the air. It was six and a half spins and he caught it.

See the SFC standing at the side not even looking to see where that rifle was at. That’s trust. ;)

The Kid is heading off to visit his oldest sister today and spend a couple of weeks with her. I guess she has a pretty full schedule planned for them. This weekend they are going to Rock Fest in Kansas City. The only group I’ve heard of that’s going to be there is Stone Temple Pilots and I have no idea where I heard of them before. That should be a thrill for the Kid. The festival anyway. ;)

So for two weeks I get the house all to myself. Well myself, Domino the Boxer, Bird, the Cockatiel, S’earl and Cat the Cats. The only one of the four legged creatures who is going to be depressed is Domino. He already knows something is going on what with luggage and such being hauled out and filled up. He’s going to be staring out the living room window waiting for the Kid to come home. Jumping at every noise from outside and looking expectantly at the door. He’s a boob when it comes to his boy leaving the house without him.

That also means that Domino will be taking up about 9/10ths of my bed at night, too. This dog can curl up into a small ball when he wants to do so, but when it comes to sleeping on the bed he can stretch out cross-wise to almost corner to corner of a king-sized bed. How he does, I’ll never know. All I know is that sometime (probably several) time during the night I’m going to end up with four paws jabbing me in the ribs if he doesn’t decide to drape himself over my legs instead.

I’ve tried kicking him off the bed before, too. It works until I go back to sleep. Then he’s back up on the bed. Oh and he doesn’t get on the bed on the empty side. No. He has to crawl onto the bed on my side which means I usually end up being stepped on by at least three of his four feet.

I can’t leave him outside the bedroom because if I do, he barks. This dog will bark for hours if I let him. He doesn’t know how to shut up. However, as much as I complain, he has several redeeming qualities. One of the best is that all he has to do when someone comes to the door is stand at the window and bark. Those magazine, siding, home security selling kids suddenly know the meaning of the word “No”. Even if Domino doesn’t. ;0
